Changes to Parental Leave Payment Rates

From 1 July, the maximum parental leave payment has increased from $754.87 to $788.66 gross per week.

Under the Parental Leave and Employment Protection Act 1987, eligible people receive payments equal to their normal earnings, up to the maximum rate. This rate is reviewed annually in line with average weekly earnings.

The minimum payment for self-employed parents has also increased—from $231.50 to $235.00 gross per week, reflecting the 1 April rise in the adult minimum wage to $23.50 per hour. The minimum rate is based on 10 hours of work at the current minimum wage.
